Wind-Up Monkey at Organ Grinder Pizza

by Bonnie
(Boston, MA)

I went to the Organ Grinder probably 1977, when I lived in Kennewick. The organist had this little wind-up cymbal banging monkey. He wound the thing up and set it on top of the organ. This would set the rhythm and he played the organ to the rhythm of this cymbal-playing monkey.

The monkey quit working at a certain point, which would interrupt the tune on the organ. So the organist stopped, banged the monkey on the head which would get it going again and the organ would resume the tune he was playing right where he left off. It was hilarious!
