Red Dunning Show

by Randi

Any one remember the Red Dunning Show with the ancient western movies? It came on around 4:30 in the afternoon.

Here's a tougher one.

Anyone remember the name of the theme song we heard every day when Red came on the air? It had guitars and fiddles and a driving beat.

I don't think anyone ever said what it was even back then, so maybe this info is just too obscure to uncover.

I remember the theme well. There are quite a few versions of it to listen to on Spotify: Devil's Dream. Seems like yesterday. Here's a link:

Saddle Pals Theme
by: Terrence Mayer

The theme music used on Red Dunning's Saddle Pals was "American Hoedown," an adaptation of "The Devil's Dream" by the David Rose Orchestra. Recordings of it should still be available from sources like Amazon.

The Bluebird Episode
by: C Springer

Red and his wife, Alice, lived just behind us in SW Portland when I was growing up.

One day my Bluebird group went to the television studio to see "Mr. Moon." Red Dunning was airing afterwards. His guest (I believe it was an interview with a hunter)didn't show and, being live television, something had to be done quick.

He grabbed my mom and I and put us on the set and interviewed us about The Bluebirds. I'm sure his regular audience was a little confused, but the show had to go on!

Red Dunning
by: Michael Marcus

Dear grandpa,
Oh, okay on you being in your 50's. Well, in that case it well could've been Red's train set. Or, I could be wrong. I have a strong memory of Red having a train set. I was a pretty little guy and it had such an effect on me that I asked for, and received a train set in 1957 at age five. It's all good! Btw, still have that train boxed away - no, not a Lionel, an inexpensive Marx.

My Dad Knew Red Dunning
by: Michael Marcus

My father knew Red from working at KOIN. I remember going to Red's home to see his model railroad. His entire basement was a model railway. Long time ago as I was probably five years of age then. I am now sixty-three!

The Theme, "Orange Blossom Express."
by: Mike Slaney

Loved it and I do remember the theme, all though I forgot the Title. I think it was the Orange Blossom Express, not sure, but I sure would like to get a copy of it. I remember it coming on Saturday morning as a kid in Portland and have fond memories of it today.
