Portland Wrestling Midgets

by Bonnie Gauthier
(Salem, OR)

My grandmother was in the hospital in Portland when I was about 10 yrs old. We walked in and got the most fun thrill of watching the midgets on Portland Wrestling. From there, it became a weekly event for me to watch the show.

I grew to adore Jimmy Snuka (some of my cousins were his neighbors). There was many other Portland Wrestlers I liked.

It did sadden me to find out that Steve Doll and Scott Peterson have both died.

25 years ago, Portland Wrestling did a Bowl-A-Thon against child abuse at Town And Country Bowling Alley in Salem/Keizer, Oregon. I got pictures with some of the wrestlers, but not all of them.

I still have the pictures and autographs.

Portland Wrestling Midgets and More...
by: Michelle

Great piece on the Midgets and Portland Wrestling, Bonnie. One of my favorite TV shows back then. You mentioned Jimmy Snuka and it jarred a memory.

I was in one of the cardrooms in downtown Vancouver when, who should walk in, but Jimmy Snuka and Andre the Giant! Jimmy was looking sporty in some fancy clothes, and Andre was looking ..... BIG!

They leaned on the rail that ran along the card tables for about a half hour, and we all got a full look. I must say, Andre was the biggest guy I've ever seen in person.

Good Portland Wrestling memories.....
