The Portland Music Scene - Unique, Eclectic And Fun
The Portland music scene is one of the most diverse and unique you will find in all of North America, if not beyond. The City of Roses has always been a hotbed for local Portland musicians. They find the city welcoming and residents flock to hear live music played in various venues around the city, seven nights a week.
Many local bands around here have gained national fame. If you're a child of the eighties, you may remember a band named Quarterflash, their biggest hit being, "Harden My Heart." Well, that great sound from Marv and Rindy Ross began right here in Portland when they started out under the name Seafood Mama and playing local clubs and bars around the area. If you go further back, The Kingsman, who immortalized the song, "Louie, Louie," formed here in Portland in 1959.

Here are a few of my favorite Portland music artists:
Strange Tones - I love their Blues and Rock-A-Billy sound and regularly grab their songs from the Amazon.
Throwback Suburbia- Their music is so addicting! Their most recent offering have a real retro sound to it, closely resembling The Beatles. I really believe they epitomize the Portland music scene more than any band I've heard so far.
Nick Peets - I heard local artist Nick Peets at the 2009 Bite of Oregon event. I loved the way he captured life in his songs and his voice is smooth and easy and his stylings remind me a bit of James Taylor.
River Twain - A terrific duo that performs around the Portland and Vancouver areas. They play, what they call, Americana Dustbowl Soul. Check out the video I shot of a recent performance:
Any night of the week (and I do mean, ANY), you will find local Portland musicians providing entertainment to the masses at local venues, big and small....from the coffee shop down the street to the large stadiums, seating thousands. We just simply have a passion for the tunes!
Blues, Jazz, Punk, Fusion, Folk, Rock.....no matter your particular taste, you'll find your hook-up right here, both convenient and inexpensive.
We have some of the grooviest festivals and events around, exclusively dedicated to promoting the Portland music scene, such as the Portland Blues Festival, Mt Hood Jazz Festival, and Musicfest NW.
Regardless of how different your taste in music is, you're going to find it here in one form or another....guaranteed. ;)
Here's a few of local places to hear great music at:
Crystal Ballroom - 1332 SW Burnside St, Portland, OR A multi-floored actually ballroom, it's known for the wide-range of acts it draws and it's amazing, float-on-air dance floor. Who is coming to the Crystal Ballroom?
Satyricon - 125 NW 6th Ave, Portland, OR Hosting northwest regulars such as Nirvana, Hole and Soundgarden, this is one of the oldest Portland music venues for punk, new wave, metal and grunge bands.
