The Mt Hood Jazz Festival has been an annual happening on the grounds of Mt Hood Community College since 1982 and is one of Portland Oregon's largest musical events.
Boasting some of the finest jazz musicians, nationally and locally, each year has been a time of music, food and fun.
It's very nice to discover how much talent we have living right here in the great Pacific NW. Just one more thing that puts us on the map.
The campus of MHCC in Gresham has hosted this fantastic gathering each year and, each year seems more exciting than the last.
It's an open-air festival that goes on, regardless of the weather. It's something that you can enjoy with a like-minded music fan or your entire family.
Ticket prices have usually ranged from $20 - $30 per night of the event, which runs from Friday day through Saturday night. Students of the college get a discount.
Jazz music and Portland has always gone hand-in-hand in my mind, so this very special jazz festival fits like a glove. I know about and have seen some really terrific people come and play at the Festival, including:
Quite the line-ups, huh?
Spyro Gyra is one of my top favorites. My wife and I had the opportunity to see them play in a popular jazz club in Seattle, WA. Wow! A night neither of us will ever forget!
They always have a lot of tasty food and drink there, including wine tasting and a beer garden. Sealed water bottles are fine to bring in, but there is no alcohol and glass containers allowed.
Flash photography, video and audio recordings are also a no-no and leave Fido at home, unless it's an Assist Animal. Not a lot of rules to worry about in exchange for a full weekend of great Oregon jazz music.
Set aside some time the August of every year for some great Portland jazz and save your spot at the Mt Hood Festival of Jazz. Get all the info on this year's schedule and ticket prices at the Mt Hood Jazz Festival web site.
