Christmas In Portland - Happy Holidays!

Christmas in Portland is an exciting time for everyone. The downtown areas are all decorated with millions of twinkling lights, holiday events are happening from Thanksgiving through January, and the stores are busier than ever.

You know that Christmas in the NW has officially kicked when they have the Pioneer Courthouse Square Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. Thousands of people gather in anticipation as the city throws the switch on the gorgeous, 75-ft Douglas Fir. Santa will be making a special appearance as well. Let the festivities begin! ;)

Of course, the Jolly Old Elf makes his home at Macy's in Portland, the next block down, bringing cheer to all the good girls and boys (where else should he be?).

The Oregon Zoo holds their breath-taking Zoo Lights shows nightly. Grab someone you love and head up to Washington Park, see the animals (they know the reason for the season!) and enjoy the whole zoo, decked out in lights. It's a definite must-do event.

The Oregon Convention Center holds events throughout the holiday season that you're sure to enjoy. From the Festival of Trees to their Super Colossal Holiday Sale and so on. Find the entire Oregon Convention Center events calendar right here. (opens a new window)

Two fleets of boats tour the Willamette and Columbia River over a 2-week span, all decked out in lights. This is an annual event that all the locals eagerly await. Check out the Portland Christmas Ship web site for dates, times and a lot more information. (opens a new window)

The Lights on Peacock Lane is a tradition for many Portland families. Expensive houses all dolled up in Christmas lights and props run down the streets of SE Stark St. and SE Belmont St. and one block east of SE 39th. Walk through the rows and rows of homes and enjoy the lovely show of lights or board a horse drawn carriage and really make it a night to remember. Get more Peacock Lane info right here. These are a few of the most popular events and activities to enjoy a Christmas in Portland. Take this season to relax a bit more. Unwind from the stresses and busyness of the year. Give yourself and your family the attention they so richly deserve and have a very merry Christmas!
